The Apache HTTP Server Project is an effort to develop and maintain anopen-source HTTP server for modern operating systems including UNIX andWindows. The goal of this project is to provide a secure, efficient andextensible server that provides HTTP services in sync with the current HTTPstandards.
At the time of writing, the latest version of Apache server (httpd) available at Apache Lounge is 2.4.7, so that version will be referenced in this guide. If you have a newer version, you should be able to simply substitute it, unless major changes have been made. The following procedures help you install an Apache web server with PHP and MariaDB (a community-developed fork of MySQL) support on your Amazon Linux 2 instance (sometimes called a LAMP web server or LAMP stack). You can use this server to host a static website or deploy a dynamic PHP application that reads and writes information to a database.
- Some of the most common web servers available for Windows services are Tomcat, Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Services), and of course the Apache server. Many server owners will choose to use a control panel which manages most of the common tasks usually needed to administer a web server such as e-mail and firewall configuration.
- As you can see, the profile has been activated to allow access to the web server. Step 3 — Checking your Web Server. At the end of the installation process, Ubuntu 18.04 starts Apache. The web server should already be up and running. Check with the systemd init system to make sure the service is running by typing: sudo systemctl status apache2.

As previously announced, the Apache HTTP Server Project has discontinuedall development and patch review of the 2.2.x series of releases.
The Apache HTTP Server Project had long committed to provide maintenancereleases of the 2.2.x flavor through June of 2017. The final release 2.2.34was published in July 2017, and no further evaluation of bug reports orsecurity risks will be considered or published for 2.2.x releases.
